The world talks about the referendum, even in “pop culture”

Today we are going to talk about the effects of the referendum on the pop culture and how the humorists and scenarists linked their work with the news. I have chosen some examples:

First, Groundskeeper Willie, from the Simpsons. In this video from the Huffpost (Huffingtonpost), William "Willie" MacDougal does a speech about how it is important to vote Yes to the referendum and he even thinks that he would be a good leader. This speech is really funny because of Willie’s sarcasm, how he gets furious, and his patriotic behavior. He’s a caricature of nationalists and I really loved how the creators of the Simpsons turned the referendum as a joke. It was nice to see a piece of news “slighter” than the others.

The other example I have chosen is a simple drawing from the artist Amy Mebberson, and her “pocket princesses” collections of comic strips, I really love her work and this one was really funny and cute. It represents Merida (from the movie Brave), one of the news Disney princesses, after the referendum. As a proud Scottish she spent her night cooking “freedom tatties” and forget to go to vote.

There are also some others funny drawings like this one with Wallace and Gromit where Wallace becomes “William Wallace” a reference to the Braveheart knight.

The last one is also kind of amusing too with the two planes and their slogans “Vote AYE” (Yes, in Scottish dialect) or “vote NAE” (No) while flying over “Nessie” the Loch Ness monster.

To finish I wanted to add a comic strip that doesn't really fit the the scottish independence subject but that is still in link with Scotland, I found it really funny!
